Renaissance Park I - Malleshwaram

In just a year this block in Malleshwaram has nearly 120 families participating in one of the most efficiently run complete recycling units in the country. A row of bins allows residents to separate 1. wet waste (kitchen waste), 2. dry waste (paper, plastic, metal) 3. E waste (batteries, bulbs, DVDs, CDs) 4. Bio waste (diapers, sanitary wear, syringes, medicines). In the process, the program saves 70,000 Rs per year, earns Rs 400 per week from re-cyclers, generates income for an NGO that supplies them with paper bags for bio waste, and generates compost for its gardens from kitchen waste. An inspiring model that should be replicated by all of us.
